Filming more immersive virtual reality sex.
Let’s get this out of the way: the new recording rig recently released by VR Bangers [NSFW] is less an erotic fantasy and more the stuff of nightmares. That is, if disembodied heads stir up in you an unsettling uncanny valley response.
But this new piece of technology isn’t designed to be in an adult VR film, but rather to be behind the scenes as a recording tool: giving viewers an even more just-like-being-there feeling.
Boris Smirnoff, the CTO of VR Bangers told The Daily Mail: “The rig was built especially for adult VR scenes because we noticed that there is a much warmer and more intimate emotional attachment between the performer and the recording device if the device itself is able to be kissed, caressed, and whispered to in the same sort of ways that a real person would sense those subtle communications.”
It’s really quite a remarkable idea. Normally, when filming a VR adult film the actors have to try and relate to a stereophonic camera setup and a pair of microphones. The placement of both the audio and visual pick-ups can be off, making the final product less than immersive.
What VR Bangers has done is put the cameras and the microphones into a plastic head, giving the actors something more human-like to relate to. It also makes sure the audio and video recording pickups are optimally positioned for playback later, and humans to enjoy.
“Stereoscopic cameras right where its eyes would usually be, true 4K resolution at a mouthwatering 60fps using multiple cameras on the front, back, and top of the head to capture every angle, along with state of the art binaural sound microphones in each ear to add a level of realism to each whisper, moan, and shift in sound,” Smirnoff added.
Unfortunately, this innovative new virtual reality recording rig wasn’t part of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES); though, the rig did make the cut and was featured at the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo in January.
As Smirnoff also said in an interview with The Memo: “Our industry has always been at the forefront of improving interpersonal technologies.”
