New virtual reality hardware made special for 3D pleasure.

Fans of virtual reality porn who are in search of an immersive experience that’s also, all-importantly, a thoroughly private one may be in for a treat. WeVeer, a newly crowdfunded VR headset with built-in headphones and remote, has been designed from the ground-up for your personal enjoyment.

An intimate erotic experience

Using the wearer’s own smartphone as its base—as opposed to higher-end but also higher-priced, stand-alone systems like the Oculus Rift and the HTC ViveWeVeer has been remarkably successful: it surpassed its original Indiegogo campaign goal of $5,000 by nearly $4,000 at the time of publication.

Developer Chris Romano describes the WeVeer as the “World’s Best VR Glasses For Porn” with many of the headset’s features being designed purely for adult entertainment:

  • Very low weight, at just 300 grams
  • Integrated sound isolation headphones for audio privacy
  • A specially designed visor for visual privacy
  • High Definition (HD) optical acrylic lenses
  • Replaceable face cushions

Additionally, the system boasts a hands-free, built-in joystick as “sometimes our hands are too busy” when viewing VR sex videos.

Riding VR popularity

As we’ve discussed before, the higher-end of VR systems and hardware can run anywhere from $600 to $800 (like the Oculus and the Vive)—not including the cost of computer powerful enough to run the necessary software.

Much more accessible, though not delivering as comprehensive an experience as the Rift or the Vive, are smartphone-using systems like the Gear VR, Zeiss VR One, and, of course, what many say started the VR craze: Google Cardboard.

While there is a tremendous amount of interest in virtual reality in regards to sexual pleasure—adult entertainment giant Pornhub [NSFW] and BaDoinkVR [NSFW] is one partnership leading the charge, though many others are following suit—few companies appear to be outwardly showing serious interest in producing a VR system solely with erotic enjoyment in mind.

Available in a few months

Promising to ship in September, the units will sell to early contributors for $59 and to regular backers for $79. For those interested in the couple’s two-pack, the cost is $150. And if you are in a VR party mood, five units are available for $300.

Purchasers will also receive three months of access to VirtualPorn360 [NSFW].

While it’s easy to look at the WeVeer as just a marketing gimmick riding the current surge of VR porn popularity, its headset offering both built-in headphones as well as a joystick for such pricing is a pretty good deal— one promising to attract not just adult entertainment fans but anyone interested in experimenting with virtual reality.

M.Christian (they/them) loves nothing better than exploring the intersections of sex and technology—and speculating on the future of both. A highly regarded erotica writer they have six novels,12 collections, 100+ short stories, and 25 anthologies as an editor to their name. Their non-fiction regularly appears in many sites, but they're most proud of being a regular contributor to Future of Sex. Of their erotic fiction, Tristan Taormino said that “M.Christian is a literary stylist of the highest caliber: smart, funny, frightening, sexy—there's nothing [they] can't write about… and brilliantly.” Reflecting their unique ability to sympathetically and convincingly write for a range of genders and sexual orientations, their stories have appeared in multiple editions of Best American Erotica, Best Gay Erotica, Best Lesbian Erotica, The Mammoth Books of Erotica, and others. Their collection of gay erotic fiction, Dirty Words, was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award. While a majority of their stories have been collected into books like Dirty Words, their fondness for combining sex and science fiction is clearly evident in collections that include Rude Mechanicals, Technorotica, Better Than The Real Thing, Skin Effect Effect, Bachelor Machine, and Hard Drive: The Best Sci-Fi Erotica of M.Christian. As a novelist, M.Christian’s versatility is on full display with Running Dry, The Very Bloody Marys, Brushes, Painted Doll; and the somewhat controversial queer BDSM/horror/thrillers Finger's Breadth, and Me2. M.Christian has worked on the industry’s production side as an Associate Publisher for Renaissance E Books and as a Publisher for Digital Parchment Services. The latter dedicated to celebrating the works of science-fiction legends such as William Rotsler, Jerome Bixby, Jody Scott, Arthur Byron Cover, Ernest Hogan, and James Van Hise. Covering topics like BDSM safety, sexual education, senior sexuality concerns, queer and gender issues, plus reviewing a variety of sex tech products, M.Christian’s non-fiction has appeared on sites like Kinkly, Tickle.Life, Sexpert, Queer Majority, Sex for Every Body, and—of course—their ongoing work for Future of Sex. If there’s anything M.Christian enjoys more than writing, it’s teaching. A featured presenter, sometimes with their friend Ralph Greco Jr, at national sex and BDSM events, they have lectured on kink play (with an emphasis on safety), polyamory, boosting sexual creativity, and erotica writing--for beginners or those wanting to go pro. M.Christian is a cohost on two popular sex-education podcasts: Love’s Outer Limits with Dr. Amy Marsh and Licking Non-Vanilla with Ralph Greco, Jr.
